Do you tip taxi drivers in UAE?
Short answer
Round up
Round up to the nearest five or ten dirhams.
OptionalCash preferred
Metered taxis in Dubai and Abu Dhabi are cheap and well regulated, and drivers do not expect a percentage. Rounding up is the norm. Lonely Planet agrees for Dubai but puts the rest of the UAE at 10–15% of the fare, so outside the two big cities a percentage is the safer assumption. Careem and Uber both offer optional in-app tipping. Add 5–10 dirhams if the driver handles your luggage.
In practice
- An AED 43 fare → pay AED 50
