Do you tip taxi drivers in Indonesia?
Short answer
Round up
Round up to the nearest 5,000–10,000 rupiah.
OptionalCash preferred
Bluebird metered taxi drivers are not tipped as a matter of course. Rounding up is enough, and drivers often lack small change. Lonely Planet reports 10% as standard on fixed-fare rides in Indonesia, which is more than most visitors give on a metered trip. Grab and Gojek offer optional in-app tipping. Negotiated fares for a scooter or a car with driver already reflect the price agreed.
In practice
- A Rp 63,000 fare → pay Rp 70,000
