Do you tip at restaurants in Indonesia?
Short answer
Round up, or 5–10%
Round up at a warung, 5–10% at a restaurant without '++'.
OptionalCash preferred
If the menu shows '++', service is already added and nothing more is needed. In a hotel restaurant that charge is regulated and almost all of it has to reach the staff. A standalone restaurant is outside that rule, so a small cash tip there does more work. Elsewhere, rounding up or leaving 5–10% in cash is normal in tourist areas and appreciated. Local warungs are not tipped.
In practice
- A Rp 250,000 dinner → leave Rp 270,000
