Austrian ski schools are the heart of resort life and instructors are tipped once, at the end of the week, rather than after each lesson. Twenty to fifty euros per person for a week of group lessons is the usual band, handed over in an envelope or directly on the last morning. For private lessons, around 10% of what you paid. If your children have had the same instructor all week and come back able to ski, the upper end is well earned.

Cash or card?

Card is widely accepted, though smaller mountain huts and rural Gasthäuser are still cash-only more often than visitors expect. When paying by card, state the total including the tip before the server enters the amount.
