How it works

WhatTheTip is free to use and carries no advertising. It is funded by affiliate partnerships with travel services — eSIMs, tours and activities, airport transfers, travel insurance and travel money. If you follow one of those links and buy something, the provider pays us a share of their margin. The price you pay is the same as it would be had you gone direct.

Why it does not affect the guidance

This matters more than the disclosure itself, so here is precisely how it is prevented:

• The figures come first, structurally. Tipping amounts live in a separate editorial dataset written and reviewed on its own terms. The code that renders an offer cannot read or change them.
• No partner has any influence over a number. We do not accept payment to change guidance, to feature a destination, or to recommend tipping more or less anywhere.
• Offers always appear after the answer. Never above it, never inside it, never dressed up as guidance.
• We would rather you skip them. The answer is the product. If you get what you came for and close the tab, the site did its job.

How to spot them

Affiliate links appear in a clearly separated section headed “Travelling in [country]?”, carry a disclosure line, and are marked with rel="sponsored" in the page source. Every other link on the site is editorial and earns us nothing.
