Portugal has a low-key tipping culture very close to Spain's. Nothing is compulsory, service charges are rare, and locals typically leave coins or round up. Visitors leaving 5–10% after a good meal are being generous.

Card tipping. Multibanco card terminals do not usually offer a tip line. Cash is the practical way to tip.

  • The couvert (bread, olives and cheese brought to the table) is charged if you eat it. It is not a tip and you can decline it.
