Expected at every hotel. Twenty to fifty pounds per bag depending on the hotel class. Doormen, lift attendants and anyone who carries something for you will expect the same. Have the notes in your pocket before you arrive.

In practice

  • Two bags → 20–100 EGP, handed over as they arrive
  • The doorman who carries one in → the same again
