Do you tip at restaurants in Mexico?
Short answer
10–15%
10–15% of the bill. 15% for good service.
Expected
Ten percent is the baseline and 15% the usual figure in cities and tourist areas; Rough Guides gives 10–15% as standard. Lonely Planet is higher at 15–20%, so treat that as the generous end rather than the expectation. Fifteen percent is never wrong. Check first for a propina incluida line, especially in Cancún and Los Cabos. Street food stalls and taquerías are not tipped, though rounding up is welcome.
