Do you tip bartenders in United States?
Short answer
$1–2 per drink, or 20% on a tab
A dollar or two per drink, or 20% if you run a tab.
Expected
Tipping at a US bar is expected, and skipping it will visibly affect how quickly you get served again. A dollar for a beer, two for a cocktail, or 20% when you close a tab. Rough Guides sets the minimum at a dollar per round rather than per drink, which is the floor rather than the norm.
In practice
- Four cocktails at $16 each → tip $8–13
